The scheme...The Cambridge SCFR is the first joint Student and Community First Responder scheme in the country. In contrast with other schemes, the responders are compromised of both community members, as well as student doctors and nurses. Pairs of responders operate from a strategic standby point, in a Dynamic Response Vehicle (DRV), which carries a range of basic medical equipment, including oxygen, airway devices, and an Automated Electric Defibrillator. It is dispatched to Category A emergencies to provide immediate medical care until the ambulance service arrives on scene.

Who we are |
A Community First Responder is a volunteer who is trained by the Ambulance Service to attend emergency calls. Their aim is to reach a potential life threatening emergency in the first vital minutes before the ambulance crew arrives at the scene. First Responders can make a pivotal difference to mortality and morbidity and form a critical early link in surviving cardiac arrest.

Our History |

The scheme is set up in memory of Douglas Gray Stephens in association with the Cambridge University Trust, the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, and the Cambridge University Emergency Medicine Society.
